Edward Spencer

British designer, 1872–1938
BiographyEdward Spencer (1872–1938) began as a junior designer at the Artificers’ Guild at its founding in 1901. He would go on to become chief designer two years later. Spencer’s style was very much influenced by that of John Paul Cooper, a designer brought into the firm in 1903 when it was bought out by Montague Fordham. Like Cooper he often used exotic materials in his design. Many of Spencer’s designs were featured in The Studio magazine.
