Robert SpencerAmerican painter, 1879–1931

Spencer was part of the New Hope school of painters, artists based in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, known for working in an impressionist style. Born in Nebraska, Spencer studied art at the National Academy of Design and the New York School of Art in New York City before moving to New Hope in 1906. A highly successful artist in the early 20th century, Spencer's paintings were collected by major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and discerning private collectors, like Duncan Phillips.
