American painter, 1906–1992
BiographyShane studied at the Kansas City Art Institute in his home town. He worked for the Public Works of Art Project in 1934 when he befriended Thomas Hart Benton, who may have influenced his regionalist landscape subjects of the 1930s and 1940s. In 1940-41, he painted the mural Picnic, Lake of the Ozarks, for the Post Office of Eldon, Missouri, a commission from the US Treasury.
