John McCradyAmerican painter, muralist, and author, 1911–1968

McCrady is best known for his regionalist depictions of New Orleans, where he established an influential school. Born and raised in Mississippi, McCrady moved to New Orleans at 21 to study art at the School of the Arts and Crafts Club of New Orleans. He won a scholarship to study at the Art Students League of New York, where he studied with Kenneth Hayes Miller and briefly with Thomas Hart Benton.
