Paul Manship

American sculptor, 1885–1966
BiographyPaul Manship is one of the sculptors most closely associated with the Art Deco style in the United States. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Manship studied art from a young age. In 1905 he enrolled in the Art Students League in New York. He became an assistant to Solon Borglum and received a three-year scholarship to study in Rome. When he returned to the United States, Manship quickly found success with his elegant images of animals and mythological subjects. His most famous sculpture may be the Prometheus Fountain in Rockefeller Center.
