Italian printmaker, 1887–1969
BiographyItalian engraver and musicologist, born 1887 in Trento and died 1969 in Milan. He worked in various printmaking techniques including etching and woodcut, engraving and drypoint. He trained briefly at the Academy of Arts in Venice after which he studied in Munich and was particularly influenced by the prints of Albrecht Durer. He was one of the artists who collaborated on L'Eroica, an illustrated literary magazine of the first half of the twentieth century. In 1925 he married the Dutch painter Regina Philippona. He was Professor of engraving at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, from 1931 to 1960; and in 1950 he was among the co-founders of the Institute G.Cesari of Cremona.
