BiographyArms was born in Washington, DC. He studied law at Princeton University before transferring to MIT to study architecture. After service in World War I, Arms turned to making prints of architectural subjects, including the Brooklyn Bridge, Gothic churches in France and Italy, and American cities. He served as president of the American Society of Graphic Artists. Although Arms' technique and style were influenced by Joseph Pennell and were quite conservative, he was an unfailing supporter of younger and more adventurous printmakers, using his authority to see that their work was exhibited and purchased.
