Martin Hardie

English painter, printmaker, and art historian, 1875–1952
BiographyAn important English etcher, watercolourist, author and scholar, Martin Hardie was educated at Cambridge and studied etching techniques under Sir Frank Short at the Royal College of Art. A great authority on the histories of English watercolours and etchings he was the author of numerous books and articles. Martin Hardie held the influential post of Keeper of the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Victoria and Albert Museum from 1921 to 1935. Among other accomplishments from this post, he created the revival of interest in the watercolours and etchings of Samuel Palmer and his school.
