American illustrator, 1837–1899, born in London
BiographyMichael Angelo Woolf was born in London, England but brought to America as an infant in 1838. He studied art in Paris and Munich. His specialty as an illustrator was American urban poor children, who garnered the popular nickname Woolf's Waifs. Many of his drawings appeared in Life and Harper's Magazine.
