Francis A. Coll

American artist and framemaker, 1885–1969
BiographyFrancis A. Coll was a painter and framemaker who worked in Wilmington, Delaware. Born on Long Island, Coll studied art in New York at the Graphic Sketch Club with Leopold Seyffert. He was exhibiting in Philadelphia by the early 1920s, and around that time he learned framemaking from Frederick Harer. Coll made the frames for many of the Howard Pyle paintings in the Delaware Art Museum's collection and exhibited paintings here from the 1920s through the 1950s. Coll was the subject of a significant small exhibition of his carvings at the Brandywine River Museum in 2001.
