George Nama

American printmaker, sculptor, and teacher, born 1939
BiographyBorn 1939 in Homestead, Pennsylvania, George Nama was exposed to the vibrant jazz scene and the Carnegie International exhibitions while growing up. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Carnegie Mellon University. Later in the 1960s, he worked at William Stanley Hayter's Atelier 17, an influential moment in his artistic career as he became a part of an international artistic circle.

Nama was elected to the National Academy of Design, New York in 1981 and soon became an instructor of draftsmanship and printmaking. His work specializes on the development of his own abstract take on natural and organic forms.

Nama's work has been displayed in a variety of museums, galleries, and public collections, including The Morgan Library, the Bost Athenaeum, and the Carnegie Institute.
