Label TextThe subdued colors, misty atmosphere, and thin paint of this painting reflect the style of J.A.M. Whistler, who influenced many American artists, including Sloan and his friend William Glackens, around the turn of the century. Perhaps a sign of Sloan's rejection of the Whistlerian idiom, he exhibited this painting only once and did not sign it.
