Label TextFranklin Osborne Alexander studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and then served with the Camouflage Engineers during World War I. He created two comic strips - Finney of the Force and The Featherheads - for the United Features Syndicate before becoming the staff political cartoonist for the Philadelphia Bulletin in 1941. During his 26 years there, he drew the strip featuring the everyman character Joe Doakes.
