Label Text"The Scabbard" is a fictional retelling of the story of King Richard II of England, who was deposed by his cousin Henry who belonged to the Lancaster branch of British royalty. Richard has fled to Wales, where he lives as a peasant and falls in love with Branwen. When Henry appears, determined to kill his escaped cousin, Richard realizes that he prefers pastoral contentment to the violence of kingship. Realizing that Richard is no longer a threat, Henry departs.
