Label TextIn a plot of romantic reversals, the Earl of Pevensey (at left) is preparing to marry young Araminta Vining, to the distress of her admirer William Minifie. Araminta's aunt, Lady Ormerod (at right), walks and talks with the Earl on the day before his marriage. Oblivious to the rising tide, they find themselves isolated on a stone ledge. Seeing impending death, they remember their own long-ago affair, reaffirm their past love, and wait to die. They are discovered by a boat carrying the eloping Araminta and William. The older and the younger couples happily sail away to their marriages.
