Here I am sitting on edge of the bed with Rattler sleeping like this. Every now and then he opens an eye to see what I am up to.

Wyeth writes to William Phelps from Crushing, Maine, "Here I am sitting on the edge of the bed with Rattler sleeping like this. Every now and then he opens an eye to see what I am up to." Like the letter sketch "Jamie in a Coonskin Cap", inspired a later painting titled "Master Bedroom (private collection). In the painitng, Wyeth portrays Rattler asleep in the peace of a vacant room rather than on the edge of a bed.
