Label TextCover artists were among the elite of the illustration profession, and this was especially true for the publications referred to as "the pulps," inexpensive fiction magazines popular from the 1890s through the 1950s. Though they were printed on cheap wood pulp paper with untrimmed edges, and sold for 10 cents, unlike the higher-quality 25-cent "glossies," pulps' covers were printed in color on higher-quality paper. People's Ideal Fiction was aimed at men, often featuring covers related to sports or the outdoors.
