Label TextFrederick Sandys was one of the most gifted illustrators of the Pre-Raphaelite circle. The medieval character of Sandys’ wood engravings is based on his appreciation and study of the work of Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). In particular, the strong outline and stark contrasts are very similar to the work of this northern Renaissance artist.
