The poster was designed by Marianna Sloan, a 20-year-old art student and the younger sister of an illustrator at The Press. The woman in Sloan's design appears to be actively producing a poster for The Press while her companion watches intently over her shoulder.Women's Editions of newspapers were a novelty in 1895, with issues released in Buffalo and several smaller towns, as well as Philadelphia.
