Label TextMarisol (Marisol Escobar) arrived in New York City in 1950 just prior to the transition from Abstract Expressionism to Pop art. She studied first at the Art Students League, followed by three years under the tutelage of Hans Hofmann. An interest in pre-Columbian sculpture and the assemblage work of Robert Rauschenberg led her to the development of the large-scale, figurative sculptural installations she is best known for today. Her subject matter is informed by her interest in contemporary social and political issues, as implied in this Suite of Six Lithographs.
