Label TextA wealthy woman from an old New York family who lived in South Oyster Bay, New York, Sarah Floyd-Jones (1758–1844) was the mother of New York politician Henry Onderdonk Floyd-Jones. She was likely a distant relative of the artist, who was just getting his footing as a portraitist--by producing portraits of his paternal relatives on their Long Island estate--in 1832 when this was painted.
