Label TextStudying in Paris in the 1890s, the Canadian painter James Morrice befriended Maurice Prendergast and Robert Henri, who likely introduced him John Sloan on a visit to New York in the early 1900s. He and Sloan swapped works: Sloan gave Morrice two etchings, and Morrice gave Sloan this small painting.Winslow Homer
