James Wilson Morrice

Canadian painter, 1865–1924
BiographyCanadian landscape painter James Wilson Morrice studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, where he lived for most of his career, returning for winters in Canada. In Paris he befriended Charles Conder, Maurice Prendergast, and Robert Henri. His work changed in style from early Whister-inspired canvasses, to thickly painted impressionist views, to late post-impressionist images that show the influence of Vincent van Gogh.
