Label TextJames A. Porter dedicated his life to the community and the world. Percy Ricks, constructed the 1971 Afro-American Images exhibition as a memorial to his close friend James Porter. Porter characterizes the Black lifestyle in African, Latin American, and African American art as an historian, and he was an accomplished practicing artist as well. Being under the wings of RicksI saw and felt his spiritual energy and his dedication to the arts. Ricks, following Porter’s guidelines, continued to build a strong foundation for the future. Ricks valued the gift of African American artists, and the impact and the images created by our African descendants upon American culture; he was prophetic.
