Label TextPartington was part of the Manchester School of Painters, a group of young vanguard artists. He exhibited at the Royal Academy. For health reasons Partington moved with his wife and children to Oakland, California, in the 1880s. With his son, Richard, he founded the Partington School of Illustrating in San Francisco in 1891. The Partingtons were related to the Bancroft family of Delaware and the Museum’s Library holds a great deal of correspondence between Samuel Bancroft and the artist.
