Label TextA colorful character whose occupations included mining-camp cook, judge, horse thief, and Pony Express rider, Miller was nicknamed the "Poet of the Sierras" in honor of his book Songs of the Sierras. The book, published in England in 1871, was met with interest by the British press and members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, including Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Michael Rossetti.
