Label TextThis print was based on Lawrence's series of 60 paintings called the Migration Series. His series, completed in 1941, documented the influx of southern African Americans into northern cities. Here the migrants are depicted on voting day. This print, produced in 1975, is decidedly more upbeat than the original painting, which featured somber colors and a less sociable arrangement of figures.
