Label TextIn the 1970s, art dealer Louis Meisel organized major exhibitions of Photorealism, coining the term and outlining the tenets of the style. Practitioners, like Ben Schonzeit, used the camera to gather information, incorporated a mechanical means of transferring the image—Schonzeit used a slide projector—and possessed the technical ability to make the finished work appear photographic. Schonzeit adhered to these criteria, using an airbrush to give the painting’s surface the look of a glossy photograph.
