Label TextThis drawing is a preparatory study for the finished oil painting. The drawing was done some five years prior to the completion of the painting, when the artist was living in Sienna. It shows Fairfax Murray’s exquisite drawing technique involving the use of charcoal wash and white gouache highlights. Despite the extended length of time, there is very little alteration to the earlier composition in the final painting.
