Label TextMuckley was trained at the Birmingham School of Art, a late outpost of pre-Raphaelitism and Arts and Crafts philosophy. His talent was recognized and nurtured by Edward Burne-Jones, also a native of Birmingham. Muckley’s illustrations for the 16th century epic poem by Edmund Spenser, The Faerie Queene were a highpoint in his artistic practice. A particularly popular source for artists of the Victorian period. A tale of chivalry, it was the perfect inspiration for pre-Raphaelite sensibilities.
