Label TextFairfax Murray began his career as a studio assistant to Edward Burne-Jones. The draped figure in this drawing reflects Burne-Jones’ interest in late Renaissance art and classical sculpture and signifies a move away from the more archaic borrowings of the early Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
