Label TextThis drawing, produced during the Great Depression, shows the American bald eagle with vastly depleted plumage grasping a painter's palette and brushes, instead of the traditional olive branch and arrows. This may be a commentary on the New Deal programs for artists. Sloan exhibited a more finished version of this composition in the Salon of American Humorists Exhibition, hosted by the College Art Association in December 1933.
