Label TextThe Beguines founded a religious lay sisterhood in the Netherlands in 1180. This painting features the jewel-like colors and precise drawing of the Pre-Raphaelites and attests to Fahey's adherence to their principles. Alfred Fahey belonged to a family of British artists and exhibited his work in London from 1896 to 1908. Little is known about the details of his life and career.
