Label TextDuring World War II, Violet Oakley created beautiful portable altarpieces for the Armed Forces. This triptych was commissioned to serve as an altarpiece by the Citizen’s Committee for the Army and Navy. It was used at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, a Naval Air Station that played a vital role as a base for coastal patrol aircraft assisting in the defense of New York City.
