Label TextIn her early days studying with illustrator Howard Pyle, Oakley developed an artistic routine that she followed for the rest of her career. Exhaustive research for a subject was followed by numerous study drawings leading up to the finished piece. Despite the short amount of time she was given to complete altarpieces during the war, Oakley made almost a dozen drawings for each of them.
