Label TextIn 1929, the year this drawing was made, Alston's career was taking off. He exhibited drawings and paintings with religious titles, including Genesis, Exodus, and The Good Book Says, at the annual exhibition of the Harmon Foundation. The same year, he became the first art director and cartoonist for the African American newspaper, the St. Louis American.
