Label TextThis popular print is based on an 1880 painting by Eastman Johnson that shows an older man scolding a young woman. She turns away, unimpressed by his rebuke, with a defiant expression on her face. The print was made by Johnson's colleague Walter Shirlaw as the "etching of the year," given to members of the American Art Union upon payment of their dues in 1884.
