Label TextI walked into Margo’s dimly lit barnlike studio in the late 1970’s. Hanging from the ceiling were a number of black amorphous shaped sculptures silhouetted against the sunlit windows. I slowly made my way through them…they gently swayed as I touched them, soft and pliable. The moving soft sculptures had a quality of motion that, as a dancer/choreographer, immediately stimulated my imagination.Soon thereafter, I created STUFFED WORK with perhaps a dozen of Margo’s soft sculptures hanging from the overhead grid of the Riverside Dance Festival Theater in New York City. The dancers moved in and around the sculptures in a sensual dance of time, space, shape, and motion.
In 1978, I also choreographed a solo with one of Margo’s stone sculptures, MINERVA, that premiered at Dance Theatre Workshop in New York City.
Thank you, Margo, for your artistic creations that continue to be so imaginative, evocative, and inspirational.
