Label TextA lawyer by initial training, Charles Jay Taylor studied art in New York, Paris, and London. He illustrated for many magazines and newspapers; he also taught illustration at the Carnegie Technical Schools in Pittsburgh. He populated his 1888 signature book "The Tailor Made Girl" with images of fashionable women at various activities. He was also known for his political cartoons.

H.C. Bunner, the author of the related literary work, was the editor of the humor magazine Puck from 1877 until his death.
