Label TextNew York native Charles Jay Taylor studied at the Art Students League and the National Academy of Design as well as in London and Paris. He contributed illustrations to newspapers and magazines; his 'Tailor-Made Girls" humorously epitomized the height of fashion and social behavior - gently satirized - in the 1880s. In 1911, Taylor became Head of the Illustration Department of the Carnegie Technical Schools in Pittsburgh.
