Label TextAmerican realist painter Thomas Eakins (1844–1916) was an artist with whom Baskin felt an intense personal connection. This portrait is based on a photograph of Eakins taken when he was 28 years old. Baskin has emphasized the wrinkles around his eyes, making him appear older. In his own portraits, Eakins aged his sitters.Thomas Willoughby Nason
