Label TextEmlen McConnell studied with Howard Pyle and worked as an illustrator until about 1925, with commissions from Harper's publications, Scribner's, and The Saturday Evening Post, among other magazines. He also illustrated books, including an edition of Nathaniel Hawthorne's Twice-Told Tales. From the 1920s on, he dedicated himself to painting.
