American illustrator, caricaturist, and etcher, 1868–1953
BiographyHenry Mayer, who often signed his work Hy Mayer, was a German born artist and illustrator who moved to America in his teens. While living in New York he was a political cartoonist for the New York Times and then the chief cartoonist for Puck. Mayer was also known for directing over 100 short films between 1913 to 1926.
