William Pether

English painter and engraver, c. 1738–1821
BiographyWilliam Pether was born at Carlisle. He became a pupil of Thomas Frye and later went into partnership with him. Based in London, he was a fellow of the Incorporated Society of Artists. He exhibited at the Free Society and the Royal Academy. He taught and his students include Henry Edridge and Edward Dayes. Sometime around the turn of the century he seems to have settled in Bristol.
