Raphael Lamar West

British painter and printmaker, 1769–1850
BiographyBritish painter and printmaker, 1769-1850. Son and studio assistant of Benjamin West (1738-1820). Applied for an Associate membership at the Royal Academy in 1792, but was turned down. He was, it seems, somewhat improvident with his finances. His life is not well documented, although he is mentioned in the “Diary” of Joseph Faringdon and William Dunlap, “History of the Rise and Progress of the Arts of Design in the United States.”
