Henry Patrick Raleigh

American illustrator, 1880–1944
BiographyBorn in Portland, Oregon, Raleigh attended the Hopkins Academy in San Francisco before finding a job as an artist-reporter, illustrating newsworthy events for the San Francisco Bulletin. Lured by publisher William Randolph Hearst, he moved to New York, where he illustrated special features for The World and stories for popular magazines, including Vanity Fair, Collier's, and the Saturday Evening Post. He remained a highly successful commercial illustrator through the twenties and thirties.
