Louis Fagan

British draughtsman and printmaker, 1845–1903
BiographyCurator, writer and artist Louis Fagan (1845–1903) was born in Naples was the grandson of Robert Fagan and son of the George Fagan. From the years 1869-92, Fagan was the assistant, and later senior assistant, in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum hired by Sir Anthony Panizzi, the Chief Librarian of the British Museum Library and during his twenty-five year professional career he wrote numerous artist biographies and art history on Italian life, some of the latter with his own illustrations. In addition he and acted as Panizzi's literary executor. Fagan died at his home in Florence in 1903.
