Isaac WitkinAmerican sculptor, 1936–2006

Born in South Africa, Isaac Witkin moved to London at the age of 21 and studied under Sir Anthony Caro in addition to spending two years as an assistant to British sculptor Henry Moore. He relocated to the United States in 1965 to accept a teaching position at Bennington College, Vermont. Witkin's combination of simple, geometric shapes into large, welded assemblages produce elegant abstract sculptures reminiscent of forms found in the natural world.
