Label TextJohn Sloan wrote about this painting in his diary on August 9, 1945: "In the afternoon Helen started painting from the roof of the garage. She squats so attractively while working that I take an easel and panel to the store room looking over the garage and start a sketch in tempera of her at work. Both of us worked until 7 o'clock and then well tired out we quit." He returned to the painting several times that summer and exhibited it in Albuquerque in September.
