Label TextWilliam Zorach was among the sculptors who revived direct carving in the middle of the 20th century. He carved directly into stone, developing an extraordinary sensitivity to his materials. Here he used the subtle translucency of alabaster to create an image of motherhood that glows warmly when lit.
